V&A research: fashion history

By the late 17^th centry the French silk industry was the most important in Europe; it ranged from the production of very expensive and complicated brocaded silks.

 

This mantua is made of patterned Spitalfields silk and it made from 1760s. By this time, it was worn for ceremonies at court. The petticoat is still very wide, but now with sloping sides and worn over a hoop known as ‘fan-shaped’, decorated with a braid of various silks, which was very popular from the 1750s to the 1770s. The bright colours and curvilinear arrangement of the trimmings indicate the Rococo style in dress.

To suitable for gala ball gown the sleeves are furnished with lace under the 3 sleeve flounce.

 

The close-up image shows robe a la francaise dress which belong in 1780, it was the most popular design in Rococo style, The clothing has been designed based on an original cut and thus consists of a stomacher, a jupe and a manteau. Skirt and stomacher were made from the same fabric as the manteau. The latter tapers off in a short beak-shape at the back.

Toy fashion:

Here are Jean Charles de Castelbajac‘s recent designs inspired by nearly everyone’s favorite childhood toy products at Lego. The clothes are modeled after Lego playsets and the hats are actual assembled Lego bricks.

Castelbajac’s playful collection depicts childhood, a time when life was full of clouds, rainbows, and Mickey Mouse, in the form of runway fashion. Models wore backpacks, larger-than-life bows, clear plastic, kissmarks, and legos.

His collection makes me remind of Disney characters and Superman such as toy story WOODY and BUZZ,. Apart from the kiddie-inspired graphics and accessories, the design of the garments themselves were constructed as loose fitting dresses, rompers, and tees–perfect for your next playdate…or whatever it is you do for fun these days.

Plastic or any fabrics has plastic effect would be my favorite materials for this project because these could relate to “toy fashion”. Using the thick cotton/ kids soft tower also can relate to soft toy/ teddy bear, I am very interested to make fluffy ball which made by bright colour yarns such as bright pink, bling bling purple and light blue etc…

 

Let’s girls to be Girls!

After I researched the articles about the child sexualisation in media and given opinions and express my feelings about all of this disturbing topic. I have a lot of thought and feeling to those it.

I think we should take an action to response the issue that kids are over sexualized, to teach them that being a children is not a shame and we should proud to be innocent and childish.

In Japan, there has a style called “Decora” favors bright colors, flamboyance and accessories from head to toe. You decorate yourself with plastic toys and jewelry, and it's not uncommon to have so many that you can hear them click together when the person moves. I would love to design my clothes with this style to relate my concept. I love to work with vibrate colours , but I would also try to use “Macaron colous” which gives a soft looking that I could think of naïve and cute.

 

I like the layered tulle party frock with cartoon style minni mouse bodice and sportier jersey separates featuring hand drawn Warhol inspired linear all over print.

                                           

Flowing skirts and princesses style dress would be my main design elements, Mash would be the perfect fabric for making flowing and layering effect. 

All my feelings about the child sexualisations:

I find beauty pagents for adolescent girls disturbing, we shouldn’t be sexualizing young girls with tight revealing clothing and “glamour shoot” make up and hair. It is important to girls to able to speak about themselves what they good at and what others are good at

 

Child sexualisation in the Media would allude to their childhoods are missing and taken away from the children.

The girls such a young age should be out being creative and imaginative, and when they focus on being sexy women it takes away learing opportunities. It also takes away learning opportunities. It takes away the beauty of the childhood!

 

Therefore, I think that entire media culture should not be raising these children to think sexualization is healthy and nothing wrong with them! Kids need to have languages and understand what is in the media has been altered by allots of different vehicles.

It is important to tech girls to feel good about themselves, you cannot be cutting yourself down. We have to watch the negative terms we refer to. Also, to able to speak about themselves what they good at and what others are good at. Because it is important to teach girls to feel good about themselves, you cannot be cutting yourself down. Those girls’ parents setting up their child with wrong beliefs and attitudes and shouldn’t support their children using bras, make up or even diet, these are for the older generations.

Parents should be more showing their child when dressing them.

 

 

Child sexualisation in the media:

Today, I reviewed how the media can in some cases cause damage to our cultural and social values by unhealthy aspects. I deiced to pick the topic of child sexualisation in media as my main political issue.

 

I had read a old new about a girl whose mother had bought her liposuction and boob job vouchers for her birthday, but the problems was the little girl was 7 years old.

I feel it is very disturbing and upset about it. The mother was setting up her childhood with the wrong beliefs and attitudes ,espically as in the artic she said that” it is good kids worry about their looks.” This made me feel angry and disappoint with her mother. If I was the girls’s mother, I would have tried to keep her at a distance from world of plastic surgery and allowed her to live a normal 7 years old life in which she goes to the park, plays with dolls, like to draw, not introducing her body issues and make up.

 

Vogue showed 10 years old French girl Thylane Blodeau who is wearing heavy make up and also wearing clothes which are clearly not aimed at her age. She is looking at the camera in a very  seductive manner, this is disgraceful for a girl of 10 years old to be subjected to this kind of behavior.  

 

I think to stop child sexualisation is for there to be law stating that children under 16 are not allowed to be shown in sexualized such as beauty pageants and photo shoots. Parents should be more aware of how they are showing their child when dressing them.

The sexualization of girls is happening earlier because of marketers for children, reality shows and expositions of “true beauty” through child beauty contests. Shows like Toddlers and Tiaras are just one way self image for girls is influenced.

 

The sexualization of girls is happening ate younger and younger age as children, even toddlers are bombarded with a plethora of adult influences and perceptions.

 

80% of 10 year old girls in the US report they have been on a diet, The study also reported the NO.1 wish for girls from the ages 11-17 is to be thinner. They being raised to think this is healthy. The entire media culture should not be who id raising these children.

There are 68% of young girls who would like to be sexy because they think they would be more popular if they dress sexy.
